How Much Does a Wedding DJ Cost in Rhode Island and Massachusetts? (2027 Prices)
If you're planning a wedding in Rhode Island or Massachusetts, the DJ is one of the vendors that shapes the whole night: the ceremony music, the grand entrance, the toasts and whether the dance floor stays full. Here's exactly what I charge, what's included, and how to compare DJs so you're not surprised later.
Typical wedding DJ prices in RI and MA
Most full-service wedding DJs in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts land somewhere between about $1,200 and $3,000+ depending on hours, ceremony coverage, lighting and how much planning is included. Be wary of very low quotes: they often leave out the MC work, backup equipment, insurance or the planning time that makes a reception run smoothly.
My wedding packages (MJR Entertainment)
- Classic Reception – $1,495: 4 hours of DJ and MC service, dance-floor lighting and a music-planning consultation.
- Signature Wedding – $1,895: 5 hours including cocktail hour, dance-floor lighting and music planning.
- Elite Wedding Experience – $2,395: 6 hours including on-site ceremony music and sound (wireless mic for your officiant and vows), cocktail hour, dance-floor lighting and full music planning.
Extra time is $300 per hour. Uplighting, a photo booth and a custom monogram are available through trusted partners, priced on request. A $500 deposit reserves your date and the balance is due 14 days before the wedding. Full details are on my wedding packages page.
What should be included in a wedding DJ package?
- An MC who handles introductions, the first dance, parent dances, toasts, cake cutting and announcements, and keeps your timeline moving.
- A planning process: a planning form, must-play and do-not-play lists, and a final planning meeting the week of the wedding.
- Professional sound with backup equipment, and wireless microphones for toasts.
- Dance-floor lighting, so the room changes the moment dancing starts.
- A written contract and liability insurance (many RI and MA venues ask for a certificate of insurance).
How to save on your wedding DJ without cutting corners
- Consider a Friday or weeknight wedding. I only take one or two Saturdays a month, so Fridays and weeknights usually have more openings.
- Match hours to your real timeline. If your ceremony is somewhere else and you don't need ceremony sound, the Signature or Classic package may be all you need.
- Use playlist links instead of long song lists. It saves planning time and gives your DJ a clear picture of your taste.

Quick answers
How far ahead should we book? As early as you can, especially for Saturdays. Many couples book 9–18 months out.
Is the deposit refundable? The $500 deposit is non-refundable; it holds your date so I turn other couples away.
Do you do the ceremony too? Yes, ceremony music and sound are included in the Elite Wedding Experience. More answers are on my FAQ page.
